Many know Marjorie Merriweather Post as the cereal heiress who commissioned Mar-a-Lago and lived and entertained at the Palm Beach mansion until she died in 1973. Less known, however, is that Post avidly supported the Salvation Army—so much so that during the Great Depression, she canceled the insurance policy on her jewels, put them into a vault, and put the money she saved toward establishing the Majorie Post Hutton Free Food Station.
