The Private Andre Leon Talley: A Remembrance
I can’t remember exactly when André Leon Talley and I first crossed paths, but I do clearly recall our first tête à tête. Our tea for two took place in the summer of 1993 at 44, the sceney Philippe Stark-designed lobby restaurant at Ian Schrager’s hotel, the Royalton. In those days, Condé Nast was located at 350 Madison Avenue, and 44 was our commissary. In spite of our shared place of employment, André and I inhabited separate spheres.
