Jayland Walker Killing Reignites Calls for Police Reform
In May, Joe Biden marked the two-year anniversary of George Floyd’s murder and the subsequent nationwide protests by signing an executive order that the White House touted as “the most significant police reform in decades,” and a step toward advancing “effective, accountable policing and criminal justice practices that will build public trust and strengthen public safety.” One month after Biden’s executive order, however, an all-too-familiar incident took place in Akron, Ohio, where police gunned down Jayland Walker, an unarmed Black man, in a hail of roughly 90 bullets after attempting to pull over the 25-year-old for an unspecified traffic violation….
