U.K. Picks ‘Winners’ The BAFTA has selected “Winners” (“Barandeha”) as the U.K. contender for the Oscars’ international feature film award. The film, by Scotland-based British-Iranian writer-director Hassan Nazer, is set in a poor Iranian village and follows nine-year-old Yahya and his friend Leyla who find a precious statuette in the desert. As the authorities search for the lost treasure, sharing a passion for cinema, Yahya’s boss Nasser Khan decides to help the children find its owner.
