Sacheen Littlefeather, Activist Who Declined Marlon Brando’s Oscar, Dies at 75
Sacheen Littlefeather, the activist who in 1973 declined an Oscar on behalf of Marlon Brando at the 45th Academy Awards to protest the treatment of Native Americans by the film industry, died on Sunday at age 75. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the news on Twitter. According to the Associate Press, her family said the cause was breast cancer.
