The Gilded Age Didn’t Invent the Clash Between Old and New New York City

When I try to rate the best nights of my New York life, a couple come to mind. There was the time when a group of us celebrated the arrival of a college friend by cooking spaghetti, spontaneously going dancing at Tavern on the Green, taking a carriage ride through Central Park, grabbing hot dogs and icy pineapple juice at Gray’s Papaya, dancing more at the Bulgarian Bar, then heading back uptown and watching the sun rise while we drank coffee on the steps of the Natural History Museum.
